World’s fair

The World’s Fair is held every few years to showcase the achievements of different nations in different countries of the world and lasts for six months. These exhibitions are the most important exhibitions in the world and are held under the auspices of an organization called the International Exhibitions Bureau located in Paris. The General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau in Paris on November 27, 2013 announced Dubai as the host of the event. Expo 2020 Dubai is the first global exhibition to be held in the MEASA region (Middle East, Africa and South Asia) and turns this exhibition into a unique and wonderful opportunity to showcase and identify the talents and creativity of this region. About 25 million people are expected to visit it. Expo 2020 Dubai will be held in a space of 500 hectares with the presence of 195 countries and international institutions with the slogan of “Connecting Minds and Creating the Future” in the UAE. The pavilion of the Islamic Republic of Iran with an area of 2014 square meters is located in the neighborhood of the pavilions of France and Peru. The ruler of Dubai has announced that on the opening day of the exhibition, the world will be amazed and everyone will be astonished. This exhibition will create many job opportunities and also will be a good opportunity for the UAE economy. The hosting of this Expo is an important event for the UAE and Dubai, and it makes the country profitable and more prominent in the world. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE with the hosting of this exhibition is also important for the UAE.

Theme and purpose of holding Expo 2020

The main theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” and it is expected that this global exhibition will be a platform for the growth and presentation of creative ideas from around the globe. The official logo of Expo 2020 Dubai is inspired by a golden ring that was discovered in the ancient and historical area of Saruq Al-Hadid and is a symbol of the connection between the East and the West, which is represented by Dubai. It is expected that more than 70% of the visitors and participants are from abroad the UAE, which is the highest participation rate in the history of world fairs.  The huge and ultra-modern dome of Al-Wasl Plaza and its surrounding buildings are supposed to provide the necessary space for more than 180 countries to participate in this cultural event. Since being selected to host Expo 2020 Dubai, the UAE government has taken the necessary steps to build an exhibition environment, and as the Emirati people are expected to do, it is doing so with the utmost magnificence. Al-Wasl in Arabic means communication and also refers to the main theme of the exhibition. Each country will have a pavilion, which are located in an area of 4.38 square kilometers. Of course, only half of this area will be allocated to pavilions space, and the rest of this space will be the construction site and other facilities and services such as accommodation for staff, hotels, communication routes, and even a public park in this exhibition village. More than 30,000 people will participate in these events.

Sub-topics of Expo 2020

Sub-topics of Expo 2020 Dubai will be presented in the form of three separate pavilions:

“Opportunities” aimed at “realizing the potential and talents of individuals and communities to shape the future.”

“Mobility”, which is about creating “smarter and more constructive dynamics of people, goals and ideas (both physically and virtually)”.

“Sustainability”, which will show the self-sufficiency of buildings in terms of water consumption. It operates using solar energy and obtaining water from the air, and in fact, half of the Dubai Expo 2020 will be active through sustainable energy. In the grounds, there will be numerous spaces for entertainment, art exhibitions, gardens and green spaces, and numerous restaurants and cafes.

According to the director of the exhibition, “Expo 2020 Dubai brings together 195 countries and millions of people to celebrate unity and humanity. “There is something for everyone at the fair, from discovering innovations and initiatives to future potentials for using sustainable energy and experiencing the food and music of different nations of the world.”

It is planned that 80% of the exhibition infrastructure will be usable after the Dubai Expo 2020, and Siemens has already announced that it will establish its new logistics headquarters in the area.
